[kinst*] : basic cheats

Post by stephh »

The cheats were so easy to find (no need to be an "expert" cheat-finder) that I'm surprised that nobody posted them before ...

Anyway, here are the basic cheats for these games :

Code: Select all

; [ KILLER INSTINCT (V1.0) ]
; Energy is coded on 1 byte (00-78h)
kinst:0:8808BC55:78:000:1UP Unlimited energy
kinst:0:8808BD55:78:000:2UP Unlimited energy
; Time is coded on 2 bytes (00-09 * 2) :
; 880884F9h (LSB) - 880884FAh (MSB)
kinst:0:880884F9:09:000:*UP Unlimited time
;============================================================================

; [ KILLER INSTINCT 2 (V2.1) ]
; Energy is coded on 1 byte (00-78h)
kinst2:0:887FC105:78:000:1UP Unlimited energy
kinst2:0:887FC205:78:000:2UP Unlimited energy
; Time is coded on 2 bytes (00-09 * 2) :
; 887F7A11h (LSB) - 887F7A12h (MSB)
kinst2:0:887F7A11:09:000:*UP Unlimited time
;============================================================================

For once, I haven't tested if the cheats are working up to the end of the games (you can easily understand why ;) ), but I haven't noticed any troubles with them ... If you find some, please reply to this message ...

Now please don't ask ME to find some more stuff for these games ...

As usual, copy/paste these cheats in a TEXT CHEAT.DAT file and enjoy them 8)

It's probably because fighting games is practically "my department" (slow site traffic due to a non-release of a new cheat file is really the main factor), and I'm stuck cheatfinding with v.62 (not to mention that my time is usually spent on MLCs).

It's not a critiism against you ... There are SO MANY cheat finders (see the "credits" list in Pugsy's file, even if some of them are no more active), that I don't understand why no cheats (nor requests BTW) were posted, especially for games that almost everybody has tried (to see how slow they were, even of the latest computers  ) ...

And I repeat again, I'm really not a fan of these fighting games, and that's why I only post the basic cheats (time, energy, and sometimes power) and I let you find the moves and the other stuff ...

Anyway, I consider the games as "covered" (ie no more in my "games without cheats" lists) and I won't spend more time on them anymore ...

I don't take it as a criticism - it's just that the state of MAME cheats is in quite a bit of disarray since that fruit incident that nearly made Pugsy quit... perhaps if things became a bit more ordered (read: new Pugsy cheat file), we might get to see more requests come this way. It's been seven versions of MAME and so many new games (and cheats) have been added since then.

Also, I don't think there might be enough demand to cheat in the first place. Just because a lot of people like KI and want to play it doesn't mean a lot of people want to cheat at KI. Personally, I think KI is a lot harder than SF (although the game more like Vampire Savior than SF).

That counts as covered for me too... these basic cheats save me loads of time when finding MLCs (so that I don't have to be worried about getting KOed while trying a move, for instance), and the majority of cheats that I find are not considered to be essential, anyways.

But when I get v.63 up and running, all bets are off.

Seems there's a problem with the kinst cheats as pointed out in another topic, I've had a look at them and the energy is a 2 byte location - it does appear to fix the problem at least.

I've changed kinst2 incase that has a problem too.

Code: Select all

; [ Killer Instinct (v1.0) ]
kinst:0:880884F9:09:000:Infinite Time
kinst:0:880884FA:09:500:Infinite Time (2/2)
kinst:0:8808BC55:78:000:Infinite Energy PL1
kinst:0:8808BC54:00:500:Infinite Energy PL1 (2/2)
kinst:0:8808BC55:00:001:Drain All Energy Now! PL1:You may need to use this cheat again if they recharge their energy and stand back up!
kinst:0:8808BC54:00:501:Drain All Energy Now! PL1 (2/2)
kinst:0:8808BD55:78:000:Infinite Energy PL2
kinst:0:8808BD54:00:500:Infinite Energy PL2 (2/2)
kinst:0:8808BD55:00:001:Drain All Energy Now! PL2:You may need to use this cheat again if they recharge their energy and stand back up!
kinst:0:8808BD54:00:501:Drain All Energy Now! PL2 (2/2)

; [ Killer Instinct 2 (v2.1) ]
kinst2:0:887F7A11:09:000:Infinite Time
kinst2:0:887F7A12:09:500:Infinite Time (2/2)
kinst2:0:887FC105:78:000:Infinite Energy PL1
kinst2:0:887FC104:00:500:Infinite Energy PL1 (2/2)
kinst2:0:887FC105:00:001:Drain All Energy Now! PL1
kinst2:0:887FC104:00:501:Drain All Energy Now! PL1 (2/2)
kinst2:0:887FC205:78:000:Infinite Energy PL2
kinst2:0:887FC204:00:500:Infinite Energy PL2 (2/2)
kinst2:0:887FC205:00:001:Drain All Energy Now! PL2
kinst2:0:887FC204:00:501:Drain All Energy Now! PL2 (2/2)
EDIT: Some typos and a correction to kinst2 was poking the display locations LSB rather than the actual one. Also deleted some of the bollocks I spouted earlier ;-) Cheers Tourniquet. No problems with the kinst cheats though.

EDIT again: Hehe, np. Pugsy's cheats are now safe :P

You sod!!!! :P

I've fixed the kinst cheats.
The Energy cheats were really 16-bit. Don't know what was causing the hangs, but when I tried them it froze the game pretty quickly (Maybe it's possible to get into a divide-by-zero situation).
With the cheats corrected I played it to the end without problems. Duplicated for kinst2 to be on the safe side.
Changed the time cheats to stop the annoying glitching (And no, I don't know why there are 0x46 sub-seconds in a second either, some function of clock-speed? :)
Added cheats to select Eyedol too, you could add type 001 cheats to switch characters if you wanted. It's only on the char select screen they need to be type 000.
The kinst2 boss cheat is a bit different. There is a normal value from 0-9, but the core value is some function of the position of the selector on the select screen and this is what the portrait is based off. However, it checks the range after each match so it needs to be a type 000 to stick between matches.

eyedol cheat question

Post by 2wacked »

Is there something else special I need to do in order to get the Eyedol cheat to work? I enable it and all different parts of the game and nothing happens.
