LIST OF GAMES WITH NO CHEATS - POST ANY FOR THESE HERE

Post by Pugsy »

Here's the list of the MAME games currently with no cheats (more or less correct). Let's get the number down to a reasonable level....release by easter then hopefully.

Please post any cheats for this game in this thread please as it'll make it easier to update the list.

Code: Select all

;******************************************************************************
;*                                                                            *
;* LIST OF REASONS WHY A FEW (IF ANY) GAMES CURRENTLY HAVE NO PROPER CHEATS *
;*                                                                            *
;******************************************************************************
;
; The following games do not yet have cheats (Infinite Credits does NOT count as
; a cheat) for at least one of the following reasons (not all reasons will be
; used at any one time):-
;
; 1. The game has not yet been properly emulated by MAME or it crashes when
; I try to play it :-(. Some games which are broken still have cheats -
; however, if it's NOT properly emulated and no good cheats could be found
; then reason 1 will be quoted over all other reasons. I also use this reason
; if I can't figure out the control method or it's too awkward for me to
;    waste time figuring out.
;
; 2. I don't know what cheats to find as the game is hard to understand and is
; perhaps in a another tongue - eg Japanese. Or the the game doesn't appear
;    suitable for cheat finding.
;
; 3. I haven't had chance to look at the game for one reason or another -
; A GET OUT! ;-) I may have had a look at the game in the past but I can't
; remember - I will use this reason in that case too.
;
; 4. The game has had no RAM areas set up to search in for cheats even with a
; SCAN ALL AREAS! A lot of cinematronics games currently have this problem
; as only 1 ROM area is defined! UPDATE 01 JUL 2001: With the latest cheat
; engine it is now possible to find cheats for the cinematronics games so
; you won't see as many reason 4 games anymore.
;
; 5. The game was only recently fixed and I haven't had a chance to find any
;    cheats yet.
;
; 6. I've got cheat(s) for the game but I haven't had chance to test them or redo
;    the cheat description(s).
;
; 7. I've had a quick look at this game and it seems suitable for cheat finding,
; there's RAM set up - but even a simple search for an Infinite Lives cheat
; didn't turn up any cheats after whittling down the locations.... These can
; be taken as a challenge!!!
;
; 8. The game was added in one of the last versions and I haven't had chance to
; find any cheats yet. If there is no reason quoted, then it is for this
;    reason.
;
; 9. The game was not in the last official releasable beta binary, some of these
; 'unofficial' games have cheats (Metal Slug X), but this reason is primarily
; for games that are playable and are likely to make it to a beta binary
; release soon. This reason will be rarely used!
;
; 10. Although it is possible to find cheats for this game, unfortunately the cheats
; are not constant. IE The next time you load the game (or even reset it) the
; cheat locations will have changed. This effects a LOT of games, occasionally it
; is possible to find the odd cheat though as some locations maybe constant. This
; dynamic memory location is quite prevalent in neo-geo fighter games - and there
; maybe some cheats in the cheat file that don't work and this will be the most
; likely cause. A new cheat type may possibly be required to fix this.
; UPDATE: As it's now possible to poke ROM locations it is now possible to make
; cheats to handle games that use dynamic RAM addressing. However, it requires a
; knowledge of assembler and use of the MAME debugger to find them - at the moment
; I'm the only one to produce ROM cheats and I will only be finding them when I get
; time or I enjoy the game. So the likelihood of ROM cheats for NEO GEO fighters is
; fairly low - as I'm sick of this type of game. But if I get enough requests and I'm
; not too bored I will see what I can do.
;
; 11. Nobody has submitted any cheats for this game and I am so sick and tired of this
; genre I can't motivate myself to find any cheats for this game. However, I
; would expect it to be any easy game to find cheats for and you only have to look
; at games of the same genre to find out which cheats can be found (eg. for baseball
; games look at another baseball game).
;
; 12. There are some cheats for this game but they are either Infinite Credits or some
; comment cheats - not 'normally' enough to remove them from this section.
;
; 13. This is a Mahjong game - I don't do Mahjong games. I'll leave cheat finding on these
; games to other people. In fact if the game's got Mahjong in the title, this reason
; will be quoted above all others apart from reason 1.
;

[findout] cheats

Post by Pugsy »

Gotta love the new watches... This game is sort of a wheel of fortune/hangman affair in a foreign language. The 'Display the Correct Answer' will show you the full answer - there will be some non letter ASCII characters displayed but there is no way round that. Remembering ASCII codes does come in handy occasionally...

Code: Select all

; [ Find Out ]
findout:0:4041:64:000:Infinite Time
:findout:000800FE:4069:00000031:FFFFFFFF:Display the Correct Answer (characters may appear strange):Solution

Ok here's my comments, thanks for the infos. I've updated the missing list again, lots smaller now. The main problem was that I purposely ignored the Mahjong cheats because I was hoping Steph would do another mahjong database along with the watch cheats and the comments about the suits which I have been converting into comment cheats.

Comparing this list to the one in the cheat requests forum, there are a few differences. I'd like to account for the differences:

Absent from This List and Present in List in Cheat Request Forum
1944 <-- Present in my latest WIP cheat file's main body (Not my cheats but they work, don't remember where I got them though)
1944j <-- Present in my latest WIP cheat file's main body (Not my cheats but they work, don't remember where I got them though)
ddenlovr <--I was emailed cheats for this - checked them and appear to work so I added them
rungun <-- Got cheats for this, just not sorted them all out yet or checked the clones (clones are rungunu and slmdunkj)
rungunu <-- see rungun
slmdunkj <-- see rungun
triplhnt <--- Present in my latest WIP cheat file's main body (my work most likely)
ultennis <--- Slipped through the net (no pun intended ;-) ) - added to list, thanks.
wrally2 <--- Present in my latest WIP cheat file's main body (my work most likely)
xyonix <--- Present in my latest WIP cheat file's main body (my work most likely)

Absent from List in Cheat Request Forum and Present in This List
crusnw13 <-- As far as I know this is missing because the game doesn't work, I have no cheats and it's unlikely to have a identical clone for cheat purposes
dondemj <-- you mean 'dondenmj'. I have no cheats for this either, it's in your missing list too!
fncywld <-- no cheats have been posted, not looked at it yet. May have some cheats the same as tumblep
hayaosil <-- you mean 'hayaosi1'. I have no cheats for it and none have been posted.
idhimitu <-- Ok found - missed Deckrine's post - I've removed it from the list (I will add the cheats later tonight)
jogakuen <-- Ok found - missed Deckrine's post - I've removed it from the list (I will add the cheats later tonight)
kanatuen <-- Ok found - missed Deckrine's post - I've removed it from the list (I will add the cheats later tonight)
kirarast <-- Ok found - missed Deckrine's post - I've removed it from the list (I will add the cheats later tonight)
korinai <-- There's cheats for this game at the bottom of the needed list, see explanation there
lemnangl <-- Ok found - missed Deckrine's post - I've removed it from the list (I will add the cheats later tonight)
maniacsp <-- I have no cheats for it and none have been posted (it's not an identical clone)
mj4simai <-- Ok found - missed Deckrine's post - I've removed it from the list (I will add the cheats later tonight)
mjclinic <-- Ok found - missed Deckrine's post - I've removed it from the list (I will add the cheats later tonight)
mjkinjas <-- Ok found - missed Deckrine's post - I've removed it from the list (I will add the cheats later tonight)
mjkjidai <-- It's in Steph's 'UNRELEASED WIP mahjong cheat database'...don't know if he's released it yet?
mjkojink <-- Ok found - missed Deckrine's post - I've removed it from the list (I will add the cheats later tonight)
mjnanpau <-- Missed the fact it was a clone, removed from list
mjyougo <-- Ok found - missed Deckrine's post - I've removed it from the list (I will add the cheats later tonight)
mmcamera <-- Missed the fact it was a clone, removed from list
mrokumei <-- Ok found - missed Deckrine's post - I've removed it from the list (I will add the cheats later tonight)
orangec <-- Ok found - missed Deckrine's post - I've removed it from the list (I will add the cheats later tonight)
ribbit <-- Don't know how I missed that post :-(
rmhaihai <-- Ok found - missed Deckrine's post - I've removed it from the list (I will add the cheats later tonight)
rmhaihib <-- Ok found - missed Deckrine's post - I've removed it from the list (I will add the cheats later tonight)
rmhaijin <--If it's a clone of rmhaihai I'm sorted otherwise it's a definite no (themj may be clone also)
rmhaisei <--If it's a clone of rmhaihai I'm sorted otherwise it's a definite no (themj may be clone also)
vhunt2 <-- Game is down as a reason 6, I have lots of cheats but to organise and format them will take a lot of time (any volunteers)
vipclub <-- Ok found - missed Deckrine's post - I've removed it from the list (I will add the cheats later tonight)
vitaminc <-- Ok found - missed Deckrine's post - I've removed it from the list (I will add the cheats later tonight)

I may not be around much the next few days, I'm recovering my main HD after XP decided that it didn't like it anymore and wiped the file system showing a 40 gig drive with 40 gig empty when it should only have 4 gigs free tops. Fortunately I've managed to recover the cheat file (I had a previous backup made a few hours earlier on another drive anyway) and my MAME ROMs. The cheat file release will still be Easter, though I'm definitely looking more in terms of Easter Sunday/Monday now and definitely no fancy new html page for this release. Need to find somewhere where I can buy a HD online and be guaranteed delivery before Good Friday, all the other data on the HD should be recoverable hopefully. Don't fancy reinstalling all the programs again....would take weeks to get it back to the previous state otherwise.

In the mean time please try to help get this list of games with no cheats down in size.

; You can use these whenever, the game handily recalulates your score for you, and just fills in the first frame/bowl with 0xFF.
; Guess you could find the bits for the pins too (Set up 7-10 splits etc) but that's too much effort.

Also, I think sengekis, thoop2, targeth and suzume can all be relegated to Reason 1 (i.e. they don't work well enough, well you could play sengekis but expect a migraine as is).

I suspect you've not been playing the same MAME version as everybody else..... As cheats where easy enough to find and the game seems to work.

I haven't submitted any changes so I expect the bg's go backwards, the zoom is messed up (sprites all over the screen) and the bg order is wrong.

Well I considered it a sickening mess that I couldn't work with anyway :P

Well the game looked fine to me...perhaps my standards are too low ;-)

Anyway here's some cheats for another game

Code: Select all

; [ Saru-Kani-Hamu-Zou ]

I don't normally do this but here are the wip cheats - you may find them useful, unfortunately they are hit and miss
as I think it would need a relative range cheat to work properly though I've not looked into in any great depth.

Code: Select all

//these cheats have not been added as on first clance it would require a dynamic (relative address) cheat coupled
//with the force range cheat. This is an impossible cheat type combination with the cheat engine as it stands
//and to be honest it's such a rare occurence I doubt it would be worth the hassle.

A comment on the reason list:

First, a summary, for those who forgot it:
1. The game is not working in a well enough capacity to find cheats.
2. The game is too complex or too confusing to find cheats.
3. There has been no previous successful attempts to find cheats for this game.
4. There are no memory areas to search in this game.
5. The game was recently emulated to a well enough capacity to find cheats, but no previous successful attempts have been made.
6. Cheats exist, but they are not in the file.
7. There has been no previous successful attempts to find cheats for this game.
8. The game was recently added, and no previous successful attempts to find cheats have been made.
9. The game is not in MAME.
10. The cheats that currently exist only work under certain very specific occasions, and a general-case cheat would require ROM cheats or RACs.
11. There is very little interest in finding cheats for this game.
12. There are cheats, but they are of little or no value (eg. "Infinite Credits")
13. The game is a Mahjong game.

Now my comments:
Reason 2: Does our inability to comprehend how the game works mean an unsuccessful attempt at cheat finding, so that it can also be cited under reason 3?

Reason 4: Should this one even exist anymore, now that no game can be cited under this reason?

Reason 5: This seems like a combination of reasons 1 and 3 to me. To me, how it works is that when it's fixed, the reason 1 designation is taken off and the reason 5 designation is tacked on - but the last part of the reason 5 designation would make it similar to a reason 3 designation. Hence, why not just remove reason 5 and cite games under Reason 5 to be under Reason 3 instead?

Reason 7: Again, this is too close to Reason 3.

Reason 8: See Reason 7.

Reason 9: Metal Slug X is part of MAME. Change this to something like "Metal Slug 4". The word "beta" should also be removed. But seriously, unofficial games in the cheat file is given on an "as-discovered" basis - why do we even have this reason? If we have cheats, fine, and if we don't, we don't.

Reason 10: Is this even a legitimate reason, now that we do have RACs and a method of finding RACs?

Reason 11: Would this fit with Reason 3?

Reason 13: I think it's merely a subset of reason 11. Essentially, it's passing up this game for others... Thus, games cited unter Reason 13 should really be Reason 11.

Overall, I think the reason list should be redefined to the following:

1. The game is not working in a well enough capacity to find cheats.
2. Cheats exist, but, for any reason, they are not in the file.
3. Cheats exist, but they are of little or no value.

and the default reason if none of the three are cited: There has been no previous successful attempts to find cheats because of any number of reasons.

jleague should be the same, but it's protected and doesn't work atm.

I did have these for daiskiss in my wip bit. I'm posting them as I couldn't get past the Questions on the map of Japan bits.
If you watch e.g. C0106F,C01071,C0116F,C1F64F you can see code of the current region you are over. But I guess it has already moved the required value to that for the next Q or the intermediate state. So it's a pain to work with given the number of regions and I don't know any of the answers.

Code: Select all
