umk3 Free character select

This is real tough, since umk3 has three modes of play. Furthermore, you got your mega endurance matches. To keep things simple, I'm just going to show you the cheats for the two characters currently onscreen. Needless to say that this cheat does not work when on the character selection screen, nor do I know where it is safe to use them. Can someone test this?

The reasons for not finding the locations for other characters are:
-The game freezes and causes palette corruption
-In the 2-on-2 battle, several memory values are swapped around. For ease of terminology, the first character is called A and the second B. After selecting the characters, the values for P2's A and P1's B are swapped to back to normal, since during character selection P1's cursors occupy what would normally be the P1 and P2 memory spots (and P2 takes two other slots that I call the B slots, since that's where the values of the B characters end up). After one person is eliminated, the B value in the proper B spot is copied to the proper A spot. Confused? So am I.
-I haven't had the time to check 8-player tournament mode, but I assume it's the same thing.
-In the single-player endurance matches, the game stores several (somewhere between one to four) characters in reserve, and the locations in memory are different per battle. That is, the single reserve character memory location in 1-on-2 endurance battle in the Grand Master tower is not used during the 1-on-3 endurance battle, nor is it used if you beat the game and choose the endurance battle as a prize (doesn't matter since it's the same characters anyways).

Without further ado, the cheats:

I apologize if this is the wrong spot to post this. But I am having difficulty understanding the codes listed for this game. Are they for a different cheat dat. currently I have an older version of Pugsy's cheat dat I got about 3-4 months ago. I also am using mame .57 as I am unable to download the newer version in my current location. But when I copy and paste they do not show up when I bring up the cheat menu, and I noticed it is in a different format. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Tez

You need to use the new 32-bit cheat engine with these codes (also backwards-compatible with old style cheat engine). The source code (if you are compiling MAME yourself) is available at http://cheatfinder.hoops.ne.jp/~ian/cheat_new.zip

MAME binaries are also available there, although they may be outdated.

If you can wait for the new engine to come out officially, Ian predicts that it should be in MAME v.60.

As an alternative, you can convert it to the old format. I don't bother since it is a real mess in the frontend. PM me if you want to know more about cheat conversion.

The new cheat engine does leaps and bounds over the old cheat engine. I suggest you get it. New features include lists (of which this is one of them) and relative addressing (and now thanks to that you now have infinite energy cheats for samsho/lastbld/lastbld2)

it's probably like the older Mortal Kombats - they crash when you try to do a move with a boss (e.g. Motaro/Shao Kahn) as they're meant to be CPU only.

Tekken however has no problems with the extra characters! The title can't be renamed but it now covers every version of Tekken 1 (ver.A hasn't been found/dumped yet...)

Why is it so long? Can you do the move/body set code in UMK3 just like in MK2 here:

http://www.freewebs.com/acekombat/Mame3 ... 20text.txt

In otherwords you would be able to pick #Rain then turn on a ninja's moveset (likw Sub Zero), and you will be playing as Rain (Rain name in lifebar) but with Sub Zero's body/moveset like in the link. See what I'm saying?

The game will crash,Rain isn't suposed to be playable in umk3 8)

Well the game will crash if you just pick Jade in MK2, but if you give her Kitana's moveset then you can control a Jade. The same can be done for Rain. If you give Rain a moveset like from Sub Zero, etc. then you can control Rain but have a male ninja's moves.

Right because Rain don't have a moves set. So just give him a Ninja's moves set at the same time.
