Can you update cheat.txt though? It has obsolete info, in particular Step 2 (Enable the MAME Cheat Engine) for Windows:

1. MAME: it should be changed to # CORE MISC OPTIONS and looks like you need to add that it also requires adding cheatpath cheat under # CORE SEARCH PATH OPTIONS.
2. MAMEUI: nowadays the flow is General Settings=>Miscellaneous Options=>Cheats=>Go back=>Save.

Version 0.271 renamed a bunch of clones, so now my cheat file is broken for Fighting Layer. A list of affected games can be found here.

And no, renaming the XML file within the 7z doesn't work.

Version 0.271 renamed a bunch of clones, so now my cheat file is broken for Fighting Layer.

1. Extract "fgtlayerj.xml" from "cheat.7z" based on 0.264 and put it into "cheat" folder.
2. Rename "fgtlayerj.xml" to "fgtlayerja.xml" in "cheat" folder (Not "cheat.7z"!)
3. Execute MAME and start "fgtlayerja".
4. All cheat codes are loaded and work fine in MAME 0.272.

So what's the problem?
